Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav
About
Umesh Yadav is India’s premier fast bowler whose cricketing journey began with Vidarbha in the Plate League of the Ranji Trophy, where his talent quickly shone through. Umesh’s debut season in 2008-09 was stellar, with 20 wickets at an average of 14.60, and he displayed his pace and swing with deliveries regularly clocking over 140 kph. His impressive performances in domestic cricket caught the eye of IPL scouts, leading to his debut with Delhi Daredevils in 2010.
Although his initial IPL stint did not make a significant impact, he returned strongly in the 2012 season, claiming 19 wickets at 23 and becoming a hot favorite among franchises. His rapid pace and ability to move the ball both ways drew attention, and he was eventually included in the Indian squad for the World Twenty20 in May 2010 as a replacement for the injured Praveen Kumar.
Umesh made his Test debut against the West Indies in November 2011 and quickly made his mark by taking nine wickets in his first two Tests, earning him a place on the tour to Australia.
During the 2011-12 Australia tour, Umesh emerged as one of the few positives for India, finishing as the team's highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets from four tests, despite the team's overall poor performance.
Umesh made a successful return in the 2013 Champions Trophy, displaying his ability to bowl fast and with control. He featured prominently in the ODI circuit and was part of the Indian squad for the 2014 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
The years following 2015 saw Umesh refine his bowling with improved fitness and control. His performance in the home series against South Africa in 2015 highlighted his renewed skills, including his ability to bowl with late swing and an unpredictable scrambled seam delivery.
Umesh’s IPL career has seen him play for several franchises. He initially represented Delhi Daredevils before moving to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2014, where he played a crucial role in their 2014 IPL title win and became a significant figure in their bowling attack.
